EXPLORING YOUR COMMUNITY'S SENIOR CLASS

Takeaways from the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) 2024 Career Interest Survey include:

  • Looking at what Gen Z wants from the work experience, most important was gaining skills to advance their careers (86%), pathways to promotion (44%) was a distant second.
  • Google was ranked as the No. 1 dream employer in 2017; in 2024, it dropped to No. 7. Health care emerged as the most desirable industry, with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital claiming the top spot followed by the Mayo Clinic, Health Care Service Corp., and local hospitals.
  • When asked what they would most like to gain from an internship, the #1 priority was skill development and training (43%), followed by the chance to explore career interest (25%). Almost three quarters of survey participants (70%) were extremely or very interested in a certification course to prepare for an internship.
